Vintage Tea Party Birthday

Tea, Cake, and Cookies Galore...My Little Girl is Turning 4! This birthday party was a DIY occasion. I made all the food and most of the decorations.  My older girl is a girly girl and I just LOVE it! She loves to play tea party so this year we settled on the theme Vintage Tea Party. In this picture above I made the two tan cake stands out of thrift store finds. The taller one was a candle stick and a pie plate, the shorter one was a planter and pie plate. I think total cost in those was about $20 after paint and glue. The pink cake stand was originally clear glass and I got it for free at a local thrift shop as they converted to a consignment shop. A little paint and some sand paper and it was really cute.
This tea cart was originally brass that my Mom-in-law picked up and a coat of paint took care of that ugly color. The teapot was a $1 thrift store find and the canister was a $4 thrift store find. The candlesticks were a purchase from a local barn sale that were originally black. Then I took a painting class and learned how to paint them shabby chic.
Like I said I made all my own food. I love cooking desserts. So we have chocolate cake with buttercream icing, Golden Yellow cupcakes with buttercream icing, Sugar cookies with buttercream icing, fresh fruit filled ice cream cones or fresh fruit cups for the little ones. I also created my own cupcake toppers and tent cards and signs. I have the whole set for sale in my etsy shop here.
In my painting class I learned how to shabby chic this vintage window a lovely teal color and then placed scrapbook paper in the panes. It made a lovely photo prop when pared with the vintage stool I found at our local flea market. Just look at how adorable our friend's son looked in his dapper gear and the girl's in their tea party best. I also hand made the girl's headbands and a local thrift shop had all the beaded necklaces and clip on ear rings I could want.

For my toddler parties sippy cups are a must. I like to use mason jars for a fancier look. In my shop I also sell these drink kits. I can make the paper flowers any color and I sell the paper straws as well. They are a hit with little girls.

I mixed vintage elements with crafty ones for a homemade feel. Here I paired a vintage blue bell jar with my handmade yarn ball flowers. I also used real china tea cups and spoons which held a cupcake instead of tea to save my carpet from a throng of 4 year olds.

Each girl got a take home hand made headband (my girl is obsessed with headbands), a necklace, and goodies in their favor bag. Adults drank from tea cups. Do you like the damask bags? I have them for sale here.
My beautiful birthday girl! To anyone making their own cake for the first time this is the way to ice the cake it is almost fool proof as I am new to it and I managed to pull it off. It is very forgiving. I recommend it. In the background you can just make out my ruffled crepe paper garland. I can make those in any color for you too. Just ask!
My girl and her best friend!
Here is a full view of my party table. Again you can see the ruffled garland along with my hand made banner. It's not a great shot of it, but it's the best one we got. The colors of the flags were soft teal, soft pink, and cream with a burlap ribbon. Do you want this banner for your party. I have it for sale for $30 each flag is 6" wide.
Table close up.
On this end of the table I had made peanut butter sandwhiches with a tart punch I also molded all my own cream cheese mints to look like Cameo Broaches. I had a thift store bunny basket holding "English Tea" bags and a vintage metal teapot for decoration. Hope you liked seeing all the party details. What did you think?

Yes fellow bloggers...I'm Back!

I know I have been MIA on this blog but I am going to try to start being better about blogging again. A lot has been happening since I left you all last. First off Teaching 7th grade full time and being a Mommy to my two girls has me pretty busy. The big news is that we are expecting #3 any day now. This time it's a boy! We are so excited! The girls simply can not wait until he gets here and ask me daily if he is "going to be born today?" If only they knew how much I wish to know that answer too.

The other big news is that I started an etsy shop. After my tea party birthday for my then 4 year old many of my friends said I should sell my items or party plan so I decided to do a little of both. Come check out my shop at www.CourtneyzCreations.etsy.com I make custom party and event invitations and decor. If you have an event coming up and don't see what you are looking for just ask! I LOVE making custom items! Be watching for a sale in honor of baby boy when he finally arrives as well. Did you know that if you are my friend on facebook here that you can shop my etsy shop through my etsy tab and get a discount every day? So stop by my page and say hello! I would love to hear from you.

What themes do you have coming up for your parties? What kinds of items are you looking for? I know this year my oldest wants a pink ballerina birthday which I am looking forward to making and my little one said she wanted a "Pink" birthday which later morphed into a pink party with brown horses. I think both are excellent themes and it will be nice to get to reuse my pink decor from the ballerina birthday in April for the party in June. I look forward to entering the world of boy parties with my son in a year.

Sneak peek from the ballerina birthday

I would love to hear from you! Let's talk, what themes do your kids want for their party this year?
